SS frame getting dipped

Post by jbcollier »

The SS frame has gone to be dipped in acid so I can see what is really under there. Here's hoping.

I have also got to stop by and have a look at the vacuum hoses on the Midget.

Well there is good news and bad news.

The good news is that at least most of it originated from an original SS and that some of the repairs are very well done.

The bad news is that it must have sat in a wet field for a long time and quite a bit of the lower frame has had to be repaired.

There have been at least two kicks at the frame repair can wth one being very well done while the other is crap.

Not too sure which way I will be going...

I have been mulling this over (and over) and I think I am still going to go the original route.

Well it seems to have originally been a New Zealand scoot. They had an arrangement where they received CKD* kits for local assembly. They either had short four digit serial numbers or no serial numbers at all. How it got to Canada I'll probably never know.

Well we know that you brought it to Canada, so that mistery is solved

Yuk, yuk, yuk...

There is a new panel beater in town who is going to start out on his own though right now he is working with Phil Johnson (the other one). I am going to get him to have a look at the scoot and see if he can redo some of the repairs.

The panel beater has agreed to do the work. I have to get another new floor section so he can easily get in there to repair the rest properly.

Well, it's bent, too. They did all those half-assed repairs to a bent frame.

Sigh.

I am off to see a motorcycle frame chap in the morning.

Well the motorcycle frame chap wouldn't touch it but he sent me to a metal fab chap who will. It isn't going to be cheap as he has to make a custom jig just for this frame. Thankfully, it can at least be done. Will be quiet for a bit now as I await frame straighening. Then it will be back to the metal work chap and then painter and then...

Not this spring, that's for sure!
