Removing Gasket Material

Post by nick »

Hey All,

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to remove stubborn gasket material from an aluminum case cover(Honda)? I've got about 98% of it off, but the last little bit is not budging.. I got a little bit using a razor and WD40 being EXTREMLY careful not to mark the sealing surface, but that only got a little more off. Is that Permatex gasket remover the way to go? Also, do you suggest treating new gaskets with anything before installing them?

I've had all my parts for a couple months now and want to actually ride. :)

I believe gasket remover works though I have never used it myself. They have special gasket removing abrasive pads for dremels and small grinders. If you're worried about the surface try the remover first.
