thick and heavy steel plate (not the kind you eat off)

Post by Kevin »

Hey folks,

i've come across some 3/4 inch plate steel. a 4x8 sheet and a 5x8 sheet. Fric, this stuff was a pain in the ass to move around with no real plan and no time. I only wanted a smaller chunk to make a bench top, but it was take it all or none of it kind of deal.

If anyone wants some cut up for bench tops or what ever... let me know approx sizes and I'll see what i can do. Its mostly sort of flat, not like you or anyone else can bend this shit. it is what it is. dump some heat into it to move it around if its an issue.

There are a couple drilled holes here and there and surface rust, as it was sitting outside for a few years. a quick flapper disc grind and it will look real pretty.

Yes, plate of that thickness makes a great work table. I would have been a buyer had I not bought some 1/2" plate for a work bench a while back.
But, as Kevin knows, this stuff gets heavy fast.
One square foot of 3/4" plate weighs in at 30 lbs.
One square foot of 5/8" plate weighs 25 lbs.
On the up side, though the magic of welding, drilled holes or other defects can easily, and permanently disappear.

Sorry I missed seeing you last week Kevin.

David, think , 3/4 on top of your 1/2 inch. Stitch weld a couple of inches here and there. Rocket ships could be launched. All I need is a lenght and width...

We will meet up soon Now that I'm back from Hawaii with my 21 year old bride.

Hmm...sounds like you have something in mind for Lil' Kim :P

Congratulations, though I always thought you were more into the vintage than the modern.
There's more to hear I'm sure!

I could use a chunk, and I have a pattern that could be used.

Is there a time that I could meet up that is convient for you? I have the pattern drawn out on a cardboard pattern...

text me when you have time, no rush at all.

A pattern should make it easy.
