One step closer

Post by jbcollier »

She-Who-Must-Be-Obey-And-Is-Always-Dismayed has given her royal assent to the purchase of the Europa. They have lowered their price considerably: not to my first offer, but close. I am off to check it out in more detail tomorrow (Monday). I'll be meeting Andrew at noon and,

"Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more. And fill the garage up with English dead sportscars."

-- to butcher a well turned phrase out of all recognition.

Ping this thread if you want to come along to laugh and say nasty things barely under your breath about my (alleged) intelligence.

Oops, one step too far. I bought it.

Thanks everyone for the moral support and especially to John for distracting him with gun talk.

My pleasure! He was a very engaging fellow, and I enjoyed seeing his treasures downstairs. Bravo on the purchase!

And I blame Andrew for Everything!

He was not strident enough in his attempts to dissuade me. His loud guffaws and realistic appraisals didn't penetrate my carefully constructed delusion of zipping along Groat Road in, oh say, mere weeks!

;-)

Thanks again everyone!

delusion

Post by Andrew »

Everyone needs a carefully constructed delusion... mine revolves around finding a 'fun' car that can be driven right away for under $2000-- Fortunately, I have just dodged a number of bullets: a 1976 BMW 2002 (on removing carpets, it became clear that the 'frame' portions of the unibody were simply too rusty to bother fixing, or rather, to pay for them to be fixed), a 1975 Mini (also turned out to be too rusty--not just the outer rocker sill had a fist-sized hole, but the inner sill too--and thus structural), and a 1982 Suzuki LJ80 (literally in pieces; too many hours to reassemble). If someone is keen on the latter, let me know. Buddy and I spent afternoon tinkering with it and managed to start the engine. It would be a great semi-vintage project (two-door hardtop SWB, 4WD, 1.0 litre HellSqueaker engine) for a person with, oh, say an extra garage, no wife, nothing else to do for six weeks, etc. Oh, and the nuts and bolts all got lost along the way...

Bought another car today: a 1975 Renault 17 Gordini. It will provide a donor hemi engine and five speed transmission.

Uh... I guess it did happen rather quickly.

Trust me, everyone will be welcome to work on it!

Welcome back?

Yup got back on Weds. Happy to be alive. We were stuck in that storm
on our approach to Edm. At 4000 ft the pilot decided this wasnt a good
idea as we could see the lightening strikes outside our windows. He climbed to 19,000ft in under a minute. Pretty interesting times, lots of
screams and praying throughout the cabin...

...but happy to be back. John your Servetta looks amazing, and who would have though there would be a lotus in the club? Awesome!
