Bitterly I proceed

Post by jbcollier »

Yes, it's that time of year again, time to set the clocks forward.

Ugh

Saw an interesting article today about a concentration of heart attacks occurring every time the clocks change. No heavy lifting tomorrow, girls.

Every morning the sheer awesome-nicity of Saskatchewan lifts the bright orb of the sun into the sky. I hear some nice folks live there, too.

Really? Where? Actually, I am surprised the insurance industry hasn't got involved in this yet. Traffic accidents go up the week after time change.

Daylight savings is attributed to a time when factories used natural light whenever they could to cut costs. That practice has died. So should daylight savings time.

TBH, I never missed much about SK as I was posted around the continent. I did miss not having to change my clocks.

Keep em shiny kids.

Hey, I wasn't joking. Saskatchewan is a socialist paradise (compared to Alberta) with a booming economy and a pretty good football team -- or so I am told by every Saskatchewan-ite I meet.

Motorcycle insurance rates are way out of whack though.

Heard today that it was actually an English fellow that came up with the Idea. He was pissy because he want more daylight to improve his golf game and came up with the Idea. Then he pitched it to the English goverment of the time and 2 years later they implemented it. The rest is history!

Well, yeah -- but: who wants to be woken by the sun at 4:00 a.m.? That's what would happen on the Prairies, in England, northern Europe and Scandinavia without Daylight Saving Time in summer. I am fairly sure that behind all the cockamamie explanations (factories, golf, farming, saving electricity, etc.) is the simple fact that at latitudes like Edmonton, England, Holland, Berlin (all much the same) no-one wants to be roused out of bed at 4:00 in the morning. Hence DST, so far as I can figure it without doing actual research (which I am not about to do unless I'm getting paid to do it, as I do enough of it already). So that's my 2-cents' worth of common sense instead.

I agree but why not just stay on DST all year round?

Coz then it would still be dark at 10:00 a.m. in late December! Isn't 9:00 bad enough?

But it would be lighter later and, more importantly, my sleep would be undisturbed. Or, it wouldn't be but for... see latest Lotus Update.
