They had linked two cylinder two stroke engines. Is this one?

German made Triumph Works "Contessa" Looks a lot like a heinkel tourist to my untrained eye.

Yup, that engine is what they call a "split-single". They really hadn't a clue back then and this design was an attempt to separate the intake flow from the exhaust flow. It worked after a fashion but was not very efficient. A couple of videos:
