Stumbling around

Post by coyoteran »

...at high revs in all gears. The P200E starts fine and gets up to speed almost normally until I get into the higher revs at the top of the gear. It then starts to stumble and falter. Changed the plug, put on a new plug boot as the old one had shattered. Checked the jets and replaced the gas and I don't think the fuel line is pinched.

Any thoughts. Ignition maybe? Its a ducati electronic ignition. Oh, and I don't know if the old boot had a resister but the new one does not.

Ok, so I finally got to looking at my stumbling scooter today. I rode the ET4 all week which is still a lot of fun, but I do like to mix it up a bit.

Anyways, drained the tank, pulled it. Checked for kinks in the fuel line. None. Put some gas back in and checked the flow to the carb. Excellent. Took the filter and float assembly apart. No clogs or issues. Float needle moves freely and is in good shape as is the float. Checked the jets...again. Still clear. Put the thing all back together and it started first kick and ran like a top. All the way to top revs in all gears. No stumble, falter or hesitation.

So, it's great that it works but WHAT THE FUCK WAS WRONG WITH IT IN THE FIRST PLACE! I didn't find any issues as it was coming apart and it went together the same way it came apart.

So maybe that is the first lesson of mechanics 101. If you don't know what the problem is, take it apart and put it back together again. That will fix it. It's enough to drive you to drink.....which reminds me, my drink is empty.

Sorry I missed this when you first posted: not the sharpest tool in the shed over here.

I would guess some crap in the fuel had partially blocked a passage, atomizer or jet. It wasn't jammed in and fell out the second time you looked. Use compressed air next time and look through or suck through (using a small hose) all the jets, atomizers, passages, etc. A can of "Dust Off" works just fine if you do not have a compressor.

I would also recommend keeping a Ducati cdi box on hand. They do screw up in weird ways at times.
