Hi guys and gals;
Well here I am in BC living happily and missing seeing you guys and driving away (I am very antisocial that way).
Life is fine and two months ago I bought a Vespa from VespaMetro in Vancouver and paid for it with my mastercard. So far so good.
I have been emailing back and forth for 5 weeks now I wanted it sent to Edmonton so I could ride it or sell it (it never arrived), then when I moved I asked them to ship it to Merritt. Well three weeks passed and I just keep getting excuse after excuse. does anyone know who the owner is there? If it is this shop (Lorenzo the fellow I have been dealing with), I guess that I just have to hope for the best or call mastercard and reverse the charges.
I bought a Tao Tao 150 and wow, it is a deathtrap and extremely underpowered, which makes me want the Vespa, or a Vespa from another shop then go after VespaMetro for my $4500).
I am running out of options and while I could pick it up and drive it to Merritt; not knowing the roads and a unfamiliar scooter, it could be quite dangerous.
If any of you could advise me I would appreciate it. Mind you if this is normal for Vespa dealers please let me know.
Thank you in advance for your help
Glenn
Vespa ripoff?

If i had to guess i would say they are not setup to ship the scoots after they receive them.
If ya have access to a truck or car and trailer just go pick it up and get it back to Merritt. A rental truck is about $100 per day. An easy Saturday if ya feel like driving.
Or call around the Vancouver for a shipping/moving company and get them to pick it up and get it to you.

Coquihalla
I agree. I have driven the Coquihalla twice in the past two weeks, and would not dream of riding a scooter up it, not even as far as Merritt, unless there was absolutely no other option. Rent a truck.

Re: Vespa ripoff?
Last year my girlfriend at the time was shopping around to get a scooter and we checked out vespaMetro which is owned by lorenzo and right next to the Vancouver community motorcycle shop.gaburley wrote:Hi guys and gals;

The sales women was friendly but overall we found the professionalism was not there. Similar to you my girlfriend purchased it on Sunday and we were told to come back in several days. Several days go by and nothing. Several more days go by and nothing. After almost 2 weeks it finally is there but it seemed that whoever was responsible for prepping it did not take any care. There was packing tape and stickers all over it. The rear brake was set so that it was semi engaged.
We went back and complained and asked what the deal was? We got the usual beat around the bush of explanations and offer of a 10 percent discount off one of thier coats which sell for 4x the cost.
Afterwards we exclusively deal with urban wasp in kitsilano. A far better and friendlier place and better prices. Sometimes I would drop in with some chicken karage and the guy in the shop would do some small tunes on my bike in exchange for some chicken and conversation. Super nice and professional. We brought my girlfriends scooter in and they did a proper once over and there was a huge difference.
It would have been a one off but if you google Metrovespa in vancouver you will see that this is not an isolated story at all. They even restrict the community motorcycle shop next door from working on any vespas to protect thier market share which....i think is lame. But apparently the own the building and can dictate the terms.
oh well
Vespa ripoff
Hi everybody;
Thank you for your input and help. Apparently the only way I will get it is to hire someone to deliver it here for me, but then if they aren't even set up properly what would be the point. Unfortunately my only option is to go there, but then what if it is not ready or as he says "it is somewhere in the warehouse" and I have to go away empty handed. it could be a huge waste of time and money.
I think that I will call mastercard and get the charge reversed and find another one at a more reputable dealer. I will phone him on Monday and say that if it is not here by Wednesday I will have the charge reversed.
Now on to a happyier thing; that Tao Tao 150 while still a pile of crap is not as bad as that first ride. I have been spoiled by my Honda (Elite 80), while it is horribly underpowered it seems strangely stable in the turns, I thought that I would try to see and it tops out at 80. the steering column is loose as it moves with a bump when I put on the front brake, I will have it tightened at my first serviccheck.
I like that I never have to worry about my hands hitting my knees when I am doing a uturn and if anything, it is too tall but I like being up high.
While it might not be a deathtrap in the strictest sense of the word, it is pretty bad and even a new 150 scooter should be able to do more than 80.
still there is a lot of room, the gas tank is under the floorboards where they all should be and even on no name Chinese tires (that do not seem to slide, unlike some I have used) it takes corners with a lot more confidance than the Honda Elite 80.
It is crap, but it just might turn out to be one of those pieces of crap that you enjoy.
More after a fair breakin period

I bought my Stella from Vespametro and they were able to ship it to Calgary for me. So they are setup to ship, I believe they used TransX.
Not sure what is going on there, when I dealt with them they were pretty good and the shipping rates were reasonable.
I mostly dealt with Lorenzo and he was pretty patient dealing with my questions about when my scoot would arrive (not his fault, there were delays bringing them into Canada).
If they can't get the shipping together for you (which seems odd) maybe contact TransX the rates were cheap enough though I don't remember what it was offhand, or tell Lorenzo to contact them.
Cheers,
Brad

My Vespa is home
Hi Guys and Gals:
Well as you can see by my other post, my LX150ie is finally home where she belongs. Now I want a Stella so I can shift; however maybe shifting is better left as a fond memory.
