Vespa 70th Anniversary Ride Sat August 20th

Post by Paul S »

The Vespa Club of Canada is organizing a "Vespa Only" day on Saturday August 20. Rides will be approximately 70 km in length and end at an Italian eatery.

I haven't heard of anything in Edmonton yet so if anyone wants to organize a ride for that day let us know and we can help spread the word on our website and social media and provide other support if possible.

Info from Vespa Club of Canada

Hello everyone, The Vespa Club of Canada has set a date to recognize and celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Vespa. This ride is for Vespas only, Geared and Automatics. The date is Saturday August 20.

What we’re asking of you is to plan a route in your city/community. The requirements that it be 70km in distance (so about an hour or more depending on traffic or other issues). If there is a local shop you’d like to start from whether a scooter shop, coffee shop or gas station make sure everyone is aware of the start place.

The suggested start time would be between 10:30 and 11, giving you plenty of time to arrive at your destination for lunch. We also ask that you finish at an Italian restaurant of your choice. If there isn’t a restaurant available by all means end at a restaurant that’s convenient for everyone to park and be able to sit down together either inside or outside.

When planning a route be sure of any current or future road work being done. Make sure everyone is gassed up. When group riding, be sure to inform everyone to ride in a staggered formation, with the lead on the left side of the lane, the second rider to the right and behind, third on the left and so on.

It’s crucial that when representing the Vespa Club of Canada and being scooterists that we follow the road rules. Should some of your group get separated by traffic lights or stop signs pull to the side of the road and wait. (I’ve been on a few rides where there are rolling stops at stop signs)
If you would like to take the lead on planning a route in your area let us know and we can post it ASAP. Also, we will have commemorative buttons and possibly stickers to hand out to participants.

If you have an idea how many let us know at president@vespacubofcanada.com and we’ll either post them prior to the day or shortly after. If you’re unsure if someone has started the ball rolling to pan a route let us know and we’ll put you in touch. We will also announce the cities and the contact(s) for planned routes.

Looking forward to your routes, some sunny weather and lots of pictures.

Cheers
