So...anyone into winter riding?

Post by LibertineAudrey »

The Top-Gear hooligans suggested something that might be fun. I thought I would throw it out here to see if there was any interest.

Each year they participate in a 24 hour numb bum ice race in February. They would be super stoked to have another scooter team to race against. Would anyone be interested in racing on ice this winter? Top Gear is willing to possibly help us out if we want to compete.

Wolf also said that if we could get three scooters competing (I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to get Calgary involved) they might even be able to get our own class in the race.

Anyways, just throwing it out there to see if there was even a remote interest in it. I can get more details if there is.

THINK ABOUT IT!!! it could be fuuuuuuuuun

WTF???? Where was this last year? I have wanted to do this since I first heard about it in 2005.

I don't know if you have seen the PX they use but they put ice studs in the tires, beef up the electrical system to run multiple lights and a vest, bush bars on the handlebars and a bead lock on the tires to keep the rims from spinning. A major issue in the cold.

That would be fun. Especially for the club cache as it were. You guys should seriously consider doing this. Just take a look at what you have for a pit crew. That alone buys you a competitive edge.

Keep em snowy. :)

Yes, we were all discussing it over pictures, looking at the mods and studded tires and such. They also have to cut down the leg shield to allow for unjamming the headset and handles after it gets dropped for the millionth time.

It looks like A LOT of fun. There was even some talk of letting the club use some scoot they have in the basement at Top Gear, but I'm not sure how serious they were about it.

If there is any sort of interest from the club (come on, fun fun), I can see exactly how much Top Gear is willing to help us with it. If nothing else, it might be worth considering getting Team Crude together, all chipping in for some rat bike and just using it purely for this sort of thing.

I'll get out there and do some testing right away.

:-)

It's 25°C here right now. Don't think I'll need the studs!

Seriously though, dunno what to suggest though I am willing to help out.

I had a chat with my pal Brian , who raced in the 24 hour num bum race
he rode a 400 cc mx bike at 140 k on the straight aways he said the scariest
part of the race was coming up behind top gears scooter going 50 k .i think
i may be having second thoughts . Freezing ice roost in the face or 1 inch
of water ? i still think it would be fun to get some tires and head out there
and rip around! but entering the race not to sure now.
