Crushed update

Post by jbcollier »

Pulled the engine over weekend and stripped it this morning. Damn good thing I did! The cush drive was mere kilometres away from going kaboom. Probably would have taken the cases out as well. Meanwhile, while I'm in there...

Hi Jae,

I'm going with the DRT sport clutch. The other clutch was still OK, it's the quattrini "super" clutch, just the cush going south made it seem like a sticking, slipping clutch.

Hi Angelo,

I am converting to an external carb and upping the size a bit. DRT xmas tree to give a shorter fourth and third for closer gears and a DRT cush so it lasts longer this time. A beefier crank so I can spin 10K and sleep nights. I may also have to refinish the cylinder :-( or get a new top end as there is a single score mark you can't feel. I am going to show it to my machinist tomorrow. I'll bring lots of kleenex just in case. Hopefully I can get away with just a new piston.

Let's see 5000 kilometres and 1.5K for an overhaul... ouch. Leave it stock boys and girls!

lol i have the drt clutch basket and the screws/bolts sheared. you could always trying ordering from drt directly john. and i would go with an oko carb which is a keihin knock off and you can use keihin parts in them. I'm running a 28mm right now and i'm pretty happy with it, well as happy as a tinkerer can get.

Good news! The cylinder is useable. New piston kit plus a diamond hone and I'm set.

Bad news! With the upgraded crank, larger carb, close ratio gearbox and uprated clutch and cush, I could have gone to Hawaii instead and had a very good time!
