So there is this guy, a friend of mine, who poured a batch of really bad gas, or so he said, into his slightly older modern vespa. And then, like a moron, my friend left the gas sitting in the carb for months.
When I...er I mean, my friend, finally opened the carb up there wasn't a piece of aluminum or brass that was not pitted, and filled with hardened green crud. Light did not pass through a single hole in the jets, atomizer, or accelerator pump is what he told me.
So after trying the spray carb cleaner with limited success, (the bike runs a little rough and it does not start or accelerate as cleanly as he remembers it) he is asking if there is a commercial dip that will chew the green crud off. I told my friend I would remove all the parts that might get rotted by a chemical bath.
Thanks in advance gearheads, from ...my friend.

Hey gearheads
Vy is it vee get too soon olt and too late schmart?
Oh Poop!
Yamaha makes carb dip that might work:
http://www.parkeryamaha.com/yamahacarbu ... erdip.aspx
It's available in California so it should be available in Colorado as well.
A local small engine repair probably would be able to help as well.
The idle jet is so small, I would just buy a new one. Scooterswest has them.

Hey John. Thanks for the info.
I was driving the car home today. 60 degrees, sunny and me in a car. But I got to thinking about a possibility of positive karma. Last fall I sold the carb off my parts scooter to the local scooter shop for shop credit. They needed it because an et owner had broken the metal mounts that hold the float. I gave the shop a pretty good deal so I figured I would stop in and see if they had the brass from the broken carb body.
Turns out they did and they gave it to me outright. The owner also said I could bring my carb down and hotwash it in their ultrasonic bath to get rid of the rest of the gunk and clean up my, now spare, brass bits.
Long story short, scooter now runs like a champ and I am not out of pocket for anything.
Happy happy joy joy...Oh, and I am riding the ET to work tomorrow.
Keep em shiny kids.
