Trailer help or ride to inspection centre with me please?

Post by DaelimRacer »

Hey guys so I just got back from BC after a short and somewhat fruitful year of living. I was living in Kitsilano in Vancouver and while I did love it, I found the costs and job market to be far more stress than the pleasant view was worth. I found the lower mainland to be a great place with a tonne of things to do but sadly the salaries being what they are on the whole could not afford to do a lot of things I wanted to do. So after some 14 years I threw in the towel and came back to my old job here in Edmonton.

Now sadly when I came back I forgot about the unique and somewhat discriminatory out of province inspection process to bring a vehicle back into the province.

It is odd as to bring my scooter from AB to BC all I did was just show up with insurance papers and proof of ownership and away I went now. Same as in ontario same out in the eastern provinces as well from what others have told me.

Anyhow, long story short is I need to get my ride to a motorcycle inspection centre.

Normally, that would not be an issue BUT....

When I was in BC I had my MST license for scooters/ motorcycles over 50 cc but sadly when I transferred that to AB I had to restart the whole process as a beginner again. It is sad as I was only a small road test away from completing the whole thing but then I got laid off and all of a sudden spending 55 bucks on a road test did not seem like such a priority when you are only getting 1,600 bucks per month from EI.

So issue one 1 is that I am back on a learners license and as such need someone with a valid class 6 license to be in view while I take my bike to the inspection station.

I am not from here and don't know other enthuasists who could help me out.

So long story short is

1) Would someone be ok with either riding with me to the inspection station to drop off my ride?
2) Perhaps does anyone have a trailer we could use to take to the inspection centre?

3) It has been several months since I last took out my ride so would anyone be up for going on some rides together so I can get some practice before I do my class 6 road test?

4) can anyone recommend a good place to get an out of province inspection? I called the guys at time machine but....maybe the guy was having a bad day but wow! I was astonished at the attitude to a potential customer. In addition to him basically guaranteeing that my ride will fail he was also adamant that he would never work on it after it fails etc...

which fair enough but the way in which the information was said just put me off.

Anyhow, I would be grateful if someone could please help out and certainly, would be able to offer a free lunch/dinner or case of beer whatever you think is fair.

I was thinking of taking my ride to ames as they said that in case it does not pass the inspection they can at least work on it there.

I was reading that others did recommend time machine but hmm the guy on the phone did say that one of his technicians had a major health issue so perhaps he was not feeling chipper but I am quite reluctant as he did seem to be unpleasant about the whole affair.

trailer/escort

I can offer trailer or escort some days; I just need a bit of notice as my schedule tends to book up around three days in advance. I'm generally not available 4:30-6:00 weekdays due to an ongoing project.

John Black at Time Machine is honest -- brutally honest! Plus he really specializes in Harley and British iron, and does not stray from that path or pretend he can do stuff he does not know about.

What's the issue with the scoot?

Times have changed. If you moved from AB to BC today, you would have to have all your vehicles inspected.

What scoot do you have? Manufacturer? Model? Year? Engine size?

Is it in good condition?

If not, what are the problems?

Do you have a class 5 license? Or just a class 7 (learners)?

The guy at time machine told me if your tires are over 3 years old they will fail you automatically regardless of the condition. I called up ames motorsports and they said they do it based on the condition.

Other than the front wheel which might need changing there should be nothing wrong.

I just got a safety on it last may and i got the guys at motomethod community motorcycle shop to do a full inspection before i got it sent out here so.... I should be ok.

I was just put off by the 3 year rule from time machine. Did not seem reasonable as to be fair you can't compare 3 years on scooter to 3 years on a car in terms of miles put on.

Anyhow

This is actually for my Honda CB-1 gray market import. I still got my honda rukus in van and once I can get this ride on the road and operational then I can work on getting my scooter up here for the rally. Just hope I can get it all taken care off fairly quick.
