Lambretta final drive bearing

Post by pk50 »

should the final drive bearing sit flush with the outside of the case? mine sticks out over a mm. froze the bearing heated the case but it was tight .
I used a silent block to drift it in but it never"changed tone" as i was banging it in to let me know it had seated.

Can you not see from the other side if there is no space between the shoulder of the bearing and the casing? If I recall correctly it should be flush...

Not sure if this has any bearing on it (sorry I couldnt help myself) but is
the bearing Indian? If this is the case, I have heard that some don't fit all that well.

If the cases are clean, stick it in your oven and heat it up. Bearing should fall out between 250 and 350.

I got it pretty hot when i put it in first round. When it comes out i will check the depth of the shoulder on the bearing. Oh and do you recommend a red or white with that .

Unless it is a light-metal bearing race -- in which case I recommend a nice, slightly metallic white, such as a pinot grigio, or perhaps even a Pouilly-Fuissé.
