Workshop Jan18 @ 10 a.m.

Post by jbcollier »

There will be a club workshop on Sunday Jan 18, 10 a.m. at my work (12116 - 121a St, tricky first time, please google-map). Shannon will be bringing her smallframe for an engine removal and strip. Other work welcome but let me know in this thread.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

John

Looking forward to seeing everyone and getting started on the Tiki upgrade.

Thanks again John for doing this with me.

Thinking about bringing "Crusty" to the work shop if I can get it there.

Do you think we might have time to do a few things?
Maybe put in new seals and bearings where deemed necessary as a start?

Would it be best to bring the scoot, or pull the motor and just bring that?

Do you have the parts? I thought it was missing a bunch of tranny bits as well? Considering how long it was open, I would recommend a complete strip and evaluation. In that case, pulling the engine and bringing just that would be best. We can strip it and make a list.

PS: I could pop by Saturday just after noon for a look at the BMW. Let me know.

I have most but, not all the engine parts. I will try and get the engine pulled for Sunday.
As I know you are up before anyone else in this time zone, I could come to the shop earlier if that is good for you.

Alas, I'm at my son's early morning soccer game until just before the workshop starts.

I appear to have lent out both my P/PX/smallframe flywheel pullers. If anyone has one could they bring it along to the workshop?

Woo Hoo!

That went very well.

Graham, Kevin and Shannon removed Shannon's engine and stripped it down.

Kevin troubleshot Raz's scoot for no-start (disconnected wire at the coil & no gas).

David and I stripped Crusty's engine.

Paul, Raz and I worked on Paul's VBA wiring. A P-engine & a conversion harness for a 53 to 57 scoot = lots of head scratching! We rewired the stator as the wires were too short and the insulation crumbly. We then started on sorting the rest but were stopped by a short somewhere inside the body/headset. Next time we'll have to strip the harness out and find where it's grounding to earth.

All in all a good day. It was great seeing everyone and fantastic to see Kevin.

Thank you everyone for "helping" me take apart my engine and putting all the bits and bobs in bags and boxes.

I learned a lot just taking it apart. Most I won't remember, but I will at least have a vague idea of how things go together and what they do.

Now to order the parts. I can't wait to put it back together again!

Yes, thank you John for orchestrating all of that work.
Individually, each of us would have spent a few days to get done what we collectively did in a few hours.

Always great to see everyone.
