Overfilled gas
Hi all,
I accidentally overfilled my SYM Symba tank and it doesn't start now. It doesn't have the AIC/pollution system.
-Disconnected the hose from the fuel tank to where the carbon canister should be. PIC https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tsamLN ... sp=sharing

- Dabbed the air filter clean
Still doesn't start.
- Oil level in crankcase seems a bit high... possible gas in the oil though it doesn't smell strongly of gas. I will change the oil later.

Changed the oil; still doesn't start. I'm at a loss. There is an overflow tube from the tank that should go into a carbon canister, but the canister is removed and i cant tell where the other end of the overflow tube goes... inside the frame somewhere.

I just saw that the spark plug wasn't sparking. Replaced it with a new plug. Now using the kickstart gets the engine turning over sometimes, and only once or twice at that before dying. Given the soot & larger gap on the old spark plug didn't turn the engine over at all, it makes me think this is a low voltage problem, so I'm charging up the battery now (was at 9.5V from all the start attempts) and will report back. This is a new battery and has often showed 14V right after a ride, but 10 - 12V if not used for a few days, and that usually isn't enough to get it started, so I always use the kickstarter.
The float bowl is definitely getting gas, but I put a bit of seafoam in the gas anyway.

Low battery will definitely do it. Sounds like the charging system works but you have a draw when it is off which discharges the battery.

Yesterday I charged the battery for good measure and then checked the spark plug - it didn't appear to be sparking! It was 4.2 kOhm and when replaced with two new plugs reading 4.4 kOhm and 4.0 kOhm it did turn over sometimes with the kickstarter - only once or twice before dying with the 4.4 kOhm, but it ran for 5-10 seconds before dying with the 4.0 kOhm. This made me think there's a voltage problem, so I measured all the ignition electricals in the Service Manual, with results here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SSIloN ... sp=sharing
Leak current is well under 1 mA, so a slow drain if anything.
The resistances at the AC generator connector and at the CDI connector are all off of nominal values, many by a factor of two.
The pulse coil resistance was the most different: when tested at the CDI connector it shows open circuit, but when tested at the AC generator connector it shows 180 Ohm. It should show 780 Ohm when tested at both points. That seems weird to me. Anyhow, with so many resistances being wonky, I'm not sure which electrical part(s) should be replaced. I haven't opened up the AC generator stator yet to directly measure resistances.
