License Testing
Hey all. I need to do my class 6 license test, and Top Gear doesn't have anything available until June 18. Is there anywhere else in the city that does testing?
I do understand the importance of taking a training course, but at the moment my time and money is limited. Part of my reason for getting the scooter was to have the transportation to be able to move up in my company, which will free up some of both, otherwise it's just a catch-22. Therefore, sooner rather than later would be ideal for testing so that I can move forward!
Thanks all.

Most registry offices have testers that can test you at your convenience.
I was tested by Peter Baweja (who I think might be the same Tester that Top Gear uses anyways) and he tested me on a Sunday evening, so I think he's pretty easy going about times and stuff. He does a short version of an on-lot test, and then a street/traffic test. You can get a hold of him at 699-TEST.
He was very friendly and patient, I would recommend him to anyone who isn't being tested through one of the saftey courses (but I still think taking the course is a brilliant idea!!!)
Cheers

Any other testers nearby?
Still not licensed.
For any future testees out there, please keep in mind the following:
~ You must have an ALBERTA driver's licence to test for your class 6 in Alberta.
~ You must take a written test as well as the road test, and the Alberta Motor Association doesn't administer written tests; therefore if you pass your road test and bring the paper to your AMA, as instructed, they can't do anything for you.
~ Peter does not work for the registry he operates out of; he uses it as a base. He only takes cash. If you cannot take your test as scheduled because you have an out-of-province license, he will still charge you for your scheduled test. He may not mention this until you've showed up for your next test, no matter how many conversations you have before then.
~ The registry he operates out of closes at 8 Monday through THURSDAY, and 6 on Friday. You can't take the written part of the test past an hour before closing. Nobody will mention this to you until you show up at 5:30 on a Friday to take the test and find out you can't because they're closing.
If I had known any of these things, or known to ask about them, before going forward with the whole testing thing, I'd be a licensed rider as of three days ago. As it is, however, I'm stuck without a license because I was too naive to imagine this simple information would need to be requested. And I'm really really pissed at not being licensed, and not knowing when I'll be able to, thanks to work schedule and not wanting to deal with this particular tester any further.
So, anybody have suggestions for another tester? Otherwise I have to wait till the 19th (Top Gear's next testing date) and I really NEED this license to travel for work. I'm already riding without it, and I'm terrified of getting caught.
Thanks all.

hey there...
here is all the info you'll need about getting your class 6 (if you haven't already found the site)
http://www.servicealberta.gov.ab.ca/Drivers_Licence.cfm
i took the course/test through alberta safety council (and would highly recommend it), but my husband igor just went to our local registry office (not AMA) and asked for a list of testers, which he was given (called the guy and tested a couple of days later)...might want to try that....
hope this helps.

Hey G! Could you send me a message with the name and phone number of the tester Igor used because I'm having a hard time finding one. The registry downtown advertises class 6 road tests but when I went there today they said they are no longer doing that. I'd really like to get this over and done with. Thanks a bunch, see you soon!
Thanks for the info. I wish I'd known all this beforehand, but oh well. I've just gone to http://www.albertaregistriesonline.com/ ... ?sort=city and I'm going to basically call down the list and find out what I can do. Looks like a lot of them are cheaper than Peter anyway.

I passed my written test today!!! Got the first 25 right, bang on! Anyway, I just wanted to let anyone know who needs a tester that there's a guy named Robert Price who only charges $50 and meets you at KVP Registration Services in Oliver Square on 104 ave downtown. He's testing me on Monday morning at 9am. If you'd like to call him his number is 480-2725. Take care and hope to be showing you my new licence soon!
