I needed a new exhaust for the ss90 project and they aren't cheap from the usual European suppliers. I had an original one but it seemed to have been worked over with a sledge hammer. So no joy there except as a rough pattern of what one should look like.
For a while the best price I could find was 190 euros (almost $300 now) plus shipping. So I was delighted to find Saigon Scooter Centre had them for around $150. The delight did not last long. When it showed up, it was a real piece of poop: incorrect engraving and poor chrome work.
Sigh.
So I bite the bullet and bid on a European sourced one on the "auction site that dare not say its name". I lost but received a second chance offer which with shipping totaled about 185 euro. Not stellar but not bad either. The auction is for an exhaust engraved either 4307 (ss50) or 4311 (ss90) -- though they both only fit long stroke engines -- so I wait for the "What do you want reply?"
After three days, I send them a message saying that I want the 4311 version. The reply comes back that they have already sent it out! And, that they don't know which version they sent!! The y just picked one at random off the self!!!
So I wait...
Yup, it's a 4307. To send the 4307 back and the right one over the pond again is going to cost almost half the cost of another one. Thankfully they offer to send another one for 160 euro including shipping.
Long story to say that most asian repo should be labelled as repoop. And to send all the necessary info right away. Don't wait for someone to ask what seems to you to be an obvious question.
An already expensive exhaust is going to end up costing me 2.5 times what it should have and I end up with three exhausts only one of which I can use!
I'm living but am I lurning?
