Does anyone know about the multitude of Lambrettas/Vespas that are seemingly on sale from Vietnam on e-bay? They seem like good deals, but I was wondering if anyone knows about their legitimacy?
-Cheers,
Daniel.

Vietnamese e-bay Scooters
Sip another rum and coke, told a dirty joke.
They tend to be absolute disasters. There are one or two legitimate suppliers out there but most just bodge things together. Here is one of many websites on the issue:

Please stop and ask yourself why these appear to be good deals in the first place. Ask yourself if a SE Asian scooter refurbisher really is interested in giving you a good deal on a great vintage machine, or if they are just interested in unloading undrivable garbage to stupid American fatcats to put rice on their table. (Remember - if they could sell and drive them locally, they probably would)
There are no end to the horror stories at worst they are unsafe deathtraps and at very best they are shoddy, tacky, two-toned knock offs with incorrect parts, badges, frame numbers, etc.
Furthermore, stories abound of people getting burned on shipping and import costs, or ending up with vehicles that they are unable to have registered once they arrive. Plus you will never, EVER be able to resell it.
Please check out this website for information and actual photos of the conditions in which these scooters are being refurbished. Scary stuff indeed.

If you can't chrome it, curry it.
If you can't curry it, throw it away.
