Tarnation!

Post by jbcollier »

I got my rear main seal for the BMW today and, now that the gearbox is buttoned back up, I could have had it mostly together over the weekend.

We also use seals like this on Jags and they require a special sleeve to install. Well, I don't have a special sleeve so I CAREFULLY tweak it into place.

Yippee, it's in...

Wait a minute, what's that gap! OH POOP!!!

Yep seal's toast. While I am taking it out, I notice that the seal run is removable... DUH!

I may be good looking but I'm thick as a brick on the inside.

Sigh, tomorrow I'll order a new seal. Last one only took a week...

BMW engine, tranny and rear drive are all back together. Now I am just waiting on the stuff I sent out for galvanizing.

Let me know If/when you need some help to get back into the frame. I will make the time!

Cheers

Much obliged Angelo but it's all back in place. I was working in a very narrow part of the garage and partly underneath some scaffolding: hardly room enough for one!

Got my galvanized bits and bobs back today and the BMW is all buttoned up. It's nice to have one of the big projects done!
