Help!

Post by Andrew »

Just scored a 2009 GSXR 600 w.only 10K, minus wheels and disks, for $900. Poor kid thought he'd make more $$ parting it... then discovered that you can't sell a bike without wheels. Paid for it today and heard it run--started liker a charm even at -9. It will make a great naked in spring!

The only problem is how to pick it ip before I leave. I have access to a trailer, but I need three more guys to move the bike since it has no wheels--

Any volunteers for a quick run to the west end on Saturday or Sunday? (also posted this in the last thread).

Excellent!

Thanks, Dave! Given the weather, this is going to be a mulled-wine-afterwards event...

Saturday

Post by Andrew »

Excellent--thanks, John. Saturday morning should work if David can make it too--

He ditched the bike a couple of times and smashed the fairings up. It's probably better that he not be riding... He's a student at UofA. Two years ago I found him changing the oil in the UofA parking lot. I offered him use of garage space and tools in future, and lo and behold, a few months later I had a call. I helped him when he ditched it the first time, had it towed, needed a trailer to pick it up from impound, etc. He had ground a hole in the clutch cover and smashed a clip-on, etc., so my buddy Tom and I helped him replace those parts, as well as the water pump and other items that were buggered (shift lever, clutch lever... )and got it back on the road. We wondered then where that would lead. And here we are.

The bike starts right up just purrs. I am fairly confident there is nothing much to do. I told him that if I sell it, I'll give him half of any profit at least.

Just found and ordered a rear wheel set-up w/ disk, cush drive and sprocket for $226 shipped. Now I need a front wheel!

Also found a conversion kit to make it into a sit-up bike: handlebar kit from Spiegler http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=9672
which is a bit expensive at over $400.

Any other ideas for replacing stock squid grips with sensible handlebars?

Also found a footpeg lowering kit for $65--drops the pegs an inch.

maybe something like this

http://www.nicecycle.com/1996-2009-Suzu ... 6278-s.htm

some stunters were also filling in the bottom ridges of the top triple clamp with JBWeld along with a flat bar like plate for some more strength. Then drilling holes through and mounting bolt on risers like these.

Thanks, Kevin. I had found the first option, which at $100 plus handlebar plus longer brake hose plus longer clutch cable would come close to the Spiegel kit... The cheaper option just looks scary--but at least it's much cheaper, at under $50!

Saturday

Post by Andrew »

Hi all--

Saturday looks like the best day to move the Gixxer as it will be warmer than Sunday, but I've just been voluntold to do something until around 12:00. Can we make it 1:00ish to pick up the bike (near West Edmonton Mall)?

Meet

Post by Andrew »

We should probably meet at my place and go in one vehicle, as the bike has to come back here anyway, and I'll need as much help to get it off the trailer and into the garage as I'll need to get it out of the yard and onto the trailer...

9829, 91 Ave, at 1:00 p.m.?
