How to remove a stripped screw?

I stripped the screw trying to remove the ignition switch from the steering column, how does one remove the screw now?

Penetrating oil shouldn't hurt.

If its partially rounded I've been sometimes lucky placing a rubber band between the screw and driver. The little bit of extra grip is sometimes just enough.

If its really stripped a screw extractor should be helpful. On one occasion I've drilled a shallow pilot hole to help the extractor bite into the screw.

Can you post a photo? It all depends on the type of "screw" and how it's broken off.
