The job that never ends

Post by coyoteran »

So Hannah got a set of heated hand grips for her vino for Xmas. Being a somewhat electronically capable person, I suggest that while I am installing them, I could put in an accessory plug as well. Done it before so how hard can it be. Famous last words.

Installing the hand grips takes little more than removing 8 screws, cutting off the old grips, gluing on the new ones, drilling one hole and making 6, countem 6, solder connections. The addition of the accessory plug?
45 solder connections
3 new holes
removing headset, easy
replacing headset, impossible
12 more solder connections,
replacing headset, easy
leg shield removal and replacement...5 times trying to find a spot for the plug
testing the entire assembly,
promptly hitting the switch with my knee, snapping the toggle switch post off its mount
remove headset
1 new hole
6 more solder connections
replace headset...still easy
Test drive, without breaking the new toggle switch in it's new location
And done.
1 hour job gets turned into 15 hours over a 4 day period. Uhg. And kids say their parents don't do anything for them.

Keep em shiny kids

Accessory plug: perfect. Put a phone charger in there, and then you can text and ride without the hassle of a low battery.

Good work!

Easy peasy accessory plug

Post by gaburley »

I just put an accessory plug on a 1.5 ah 12volt battery and keep it in my glove box. Yeah, I'm a slacker.
