Well, the new gear set came in yesterday and I attempted to fit it today. Nice looking gear set but it was not machined correctly and will require extensive machining to work.
So I got out my carbide cut off saw and very carefully removed the most egregious burrs on the old gearset (only on the edges not on the main face). I then assembled it and used a soft brass punch to "seat" the gears back together when there was a tight spot. Two or three go arounds and then carefully shimming resulted in a mean back lash of 0.0043" with an outside of 0.005" and the tight spots coming in at 0.0035". The spec is 0.0043" to 0.0062 so I think we are good to go.
Thankfully I had found an original Innocenti service station manual on the auction site that dare not say its name. It was VERY expensive but well worth it's weight in gold. The period do-it-yourself handbooks I had up till now specified 0.002" back lash for both gear sets. The handbooks confused the maximum allowed axial tolerance for gear set back lash.
Thank goodness for small mercies!
One last gear set to go and then the bottom end of the engine is complete.

I placed orders for a whole pile of parts from West Coast Lambretta and CasaLambretta in December and I have been waiting and waiting and waiting since then. I finally got a hold of Guilarmo (sp?) today and he was under the knife and out of action for quite a while. My order should be on its way soon -- he's mostly recovered and doing well. It turns out my Casa order has been delayed because CasaLambretta in Italy has been changing locations.
All this means that my long awaited parts should be here soon. However, it also means that the D will not be ready this spring. It's more likely to be next spring as my body shop is starting to get busy again. The bank account could use a rest so it's all to the good.

Don't laugh, it could happen to you!
I was reading a back issue of scootering and I noticed a 150D for sale. In the ad it mentioned that the scooter was covered in another back issue of Scootering. I am always looking for photos of 150D scoots so I grabbed my wallet and ran to the computer. The back issue was still available so I dug out my credit card and ordered it up.
Satisfied, I left the magazine open on the page with the ad and my credit card lying on top. Can you guess what else was on that page? Can you also guess who was next to use the computer?
Yup, it was the page with all the 1.900 sex numbers and my wife found it! Fortunately, she doesn't really think I am mad enough to dial a UK based 1.900 number.
Be careful out there kids, it's not just dangerous on the roads!
