2008 Honda Jazz, good choice?

Post by gaburley »

Hi guys and gals;

I just put $1700 down (more owing) on a new 2008 Honda Jazz. What should have I asked on this forum before I handed over my hard earned credit?

Yes, if I would have thought of you guys and gals before, I would not be freaking out right now. The BWs was much more expencive and had less storage capacity (that is important to me), so I went next door and found the last (at Riverside) 2008 Jazz for $1799 ($2316 real price).

I have a Baja SC50 from Canadian tire, but after a year it is starting to exibit some small problems; however it will be a nice backup scoot.

I weigh 230 (yeah, I am big); now my Razz pulls me arround at 48k, once hitting 49.8, using GPS. I don't need crazy speed, but I would like to keep up and be able to get into traffic a bit more quickly.

Did I make a really bad choice, or will I this scoot be okay for me; and what about breakin, and did I just make an expencive mistake?

Thank you in advance and keep smiling

Glenn

Ps. Do you want to buy a Razz, I just put $350 into it having it serviced, I bought it out of nostalgia, but my old Razz seemed a lot bigger 15 years ago?

The 99 is probably a lot smaller than the 87.

Hi Glenn,

Sigh, it is amazing how things shrink inexplicably as we age: belts in particular!

The Jazz is a good, very reliable, four stroke 50 cc scoot. It's a Honda so it will give years of trouble free service. As it breaks in, it will loosen up and give you a bit more speed, not much more, mind.

That said, it is what it is: an economical around town scoot. It will never be a highway scoot unless you ride on the shoulder and are not in much of a hurry. If you want to go faster, you'll need to buy a faster scooter.

Cheers,

John

If the warantee does infact start from the day you buy it, then $1800 sounds very reasonable to me for what you got. I wouldn't complain, thats for sure.

A couple things to note though, your old razz (i'm 90% sure) would have been a two stroke motor at 50cc. And the Honda Jazz will have a 4 stroke 50cc motor. There should naturally be a little less power available in the newer Honda Jazz. Exactly how much i don't know. It might not be much at all by the time one compares the new tech with the older tech. But with that said, i would expect similar performance/speeds when comparing the Jazz with your Baja SC50 from Canadian tire, the backup scoot. Was/Is it able to haul you around at acceptable speeds?

Hi.

The 50cc 4t hondas are not going to beat anything but a moped in a race, but if what you are looking for is for something to drag you back and forth to work for pennies on the mile until the end of time, you can't beat the hondas. I read an article a couple of years ago about some dude driving his metro from LA to FLA.

It won't be fast but you will get to see all the sights. You just have to learn how to work within the limitations of the bike. People ride across Canada on mountain bikes. There is no reason something powered by fossil fuel can't do the same. You should have no regrets about that bike.

Keep em shiny
