I thought scooters were supposed to be cost effective

Post by coyoteran »

So as I was juggling the scooters around the garage last week trying to make them all fit, I started up the P200 and heard an awful snapping clunking sound when I put it in gear. I thought it might be the cruciform. I used it as an excuse to get it down to the local scooter mechanic to have it torn apart, resealed and cleaned up.

Turns out, as John suspected, it was the shifter arm. 100 bux to rebuild the selector or 70 to replace. Along with replacement of common wear parts, clutch plates, cruciform, seals, bearings, gaskets, shims, rewire of the stator, etc etc etc, works out to 350 labour and 250 in parts.

Not terrible but definitely 6 bills I did not want to spend. Now combine that with the new SIP rims and radial tires I think I am into this thing for close to $1000 this year. Where is my cost effectiveness dammit.

Old things cost money to keep them happy, at least that is what my wife thinks about me!
