Burying your Loved Ones

Post by jbcollier »

Indoor above freezing storage:

Add fuel stabilizer, fill tank and run engine for at least two minutes. This makes sure your carb/injectors are protected as well.

Disconnect negative battery connection.

Pump up tires

Wash all crud off the scoot and allow to dry.

Coat shiny bits with WD-40 or other light oils

Cover.

Indoor below freezing storage:

As above but remove battery and bring it into an above freezing place.

Outdoor storage:

As above but cover so that air can still circulate and the outermost cover doesn't touch the scooter.

Vermin possible?

Place moth balls in and around the scooter. Stuff rags into the exhaust and air intake.

Advanced:

Change your oil just before you put it away (four stroke only).

Remove your spark plug and add a squirt or two of oil into the cylinder. Spin the engine over slowly with the kick start and then put the plug back in. Will smoke something fierce on start-up in spring.

Use a "Battery Tender" to keep your battery charged.

Longer term storage:

Use wooden blocks to get the scooter in the air and the tires hanging free.

Must have fresh oil (4-stroke engines).

Drain tank and coat with two stroke oil.

Drain carb and lines. (Fuel injected scoots should not be stored more than two years without runing and flushing the system with fresh gas.)

Wash and wax. Armor-All the seats, grips, etc.

I gotta part company with you on that John. Some older vinyl seats get eaten by armorall and if your "longterm" storage is not really longterm, you end up sitting on a very slick banana peel. Not at all safe.

Ask me how I know. Go on, ask me. :)
