2 stroke oil question

Post by jgreeno »

I thought all you modsters would know the answer to my question.

Is it OK to mix diffrent brands of 2 stroke oil. Currently I am using Motul scooter 2 stroke oil, but I was given a litre of Castrol oil. Can I top up with that? Or should I always use the same brand?

On another note....I see that Motul 710 synthetic performance oil is available now. Has anyone tried it, or know if it is better than regular oil?

Thanks,

James

As long as you don't mix synthetic with regular and vice versa and the Oil specifications are the same you should be good to go like API, JASO and ISO.

If swapping from Dino to Synthetic then i would drain the tank.

In a stock engine it doesn't matter much. Heck, they used to use plain old 4 stroke engine oil as mix. Part of the reason why things used to carbon up all the time.

Modern two stroke formulations are amazingly effective and largely smokeless. Engines that used to run 5% or more now can run at 2% to 3% with modern oils.

If you are running a heavily modified engine, use a racing oil designed for premix.
