Calgary Poker Run

Post by jbcollier »

It was a great trip all round. I had a good book to listen to and I didn't have to worry about overheating or dehydration :-)

Orange Crushed is an aerodynamic as a brick so speeding was not an issue -- only saw cops at night!? Pushing the brick did mean that fuel consumption got as low as 28 mpg (10L/100 km) so I was grateful for the 32 litre tank.

I had a strong headwind on the way back and I had to use other vehicles as a wind break to keep my speed up in the 120ish range. That brought back memories of my aircooled VW days. The rain and snow never got so bad that I had to use my rain gear

The tug's alignment is a little off so I turned left for three hours each way. Especially hard into the wind on the way back. A nice hot shower and some muscle relaxants soon had me back looking in the same direction my feet were pointed. It steers OK at low speed so the wind resistance of the scoot must make it pull to the right at speed. An interesting problem to solve for next time!

The poker run was marvelous. First time I have seen Noel dressed normally. I hadn't warned them how I was getting there and the rig made a wee bit of a sensation. OC stutter-cupped her way across Calgary, she is not happy toddling along, but the occasional hill allowed me to clear her lungs out now and then.

At the run's completion, Sean graciously guided me back to the rig so I could load it all back up. On the way back to the finish line pub, the loaded rig created a small bubble of happiness as people smiled, pointed, waved, photographed and stopped dead in their tracks where ever we went. Next time I'll put someone on OC and see what happens then.

On the way out of town, Daaren led me to the holy of holies: his original SS90. I got to photograph it to my heart's content and he even disassembled some of it so I could get a few internal shots.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!

Here are a few happy snaps:

Glad that you had a safe trip. I knew that the new rig would be well received. Maybe this winter we can develope a carbon fiber aero kit for it to improve gas Mileage  Thanks for the update, also glad to hear that the weather held out for all.

Cheers

You were missed Angelo.

Amazingly, even I believed you were sorry you had to go to California! I have a package for you and it comes with the Jaguar's blessings.

You missed a very nice BMW /5 with open megas no less. Must have had mild timing as my Duck is way, way noisier I have my mega jammed with packing. Daaren nursed one last ride out of his long suffering GS and now the engine is slated for a winter overhaul.

When are you back?

Nice shooting Sean.

You even made ugly, old me look not too shabby. Mind, I had to cover everything but eyes...
