The great condition replacement gas tank that I had painted is the wrong one. It's too long.
Oh poop.
Uh oh

Well, it's still "almost" done. Just a little less almost than I thought.
Usually you try everything out first but the D was already at the body shop when I managed to find this tank. I still have another tank in fair condition but, unfortunately, I tossed the original tank when I received the wonderful one.
Worse comes to worse, I'll section this tank to fit and get it repainted.
No too bad really.

I got my second best tank from work and brought it home to make sure it fit. Slides right in. Dropped it off a rad shop for dipping, repairs and coating -- which is why I went with the immaculate one from he whose name I am tired of saying.
When it's done at the rad shop, it's off to the body shop for love and paint.
All told, it shouldn't be more than a couple of weeks delay.
The painted tank is deeper in the bottom section and has a different front mount. I think it might be from a Siambretta.
