No workshop but...

Post by jbcollier »

I'll be at work tomorrow building up Crushed's new engine. I should be there from about 9:30 on. Feel free to pop by.

It was nice to see David and Angelo. Thanks for coming out!

After you left I did pull the clutch back down. I modified a clutch puller to compress the clutch and I pulled the plates. The clutch was fine but the clutch cover was dragging on the clutch which is what made it difficult to turn. I think I need a larger cover spacer but I'll check on the smallframe lists before ordering.

Everything else went very well with my squish coming in at 1.05 mm with no machining!

His name is Bert though he has, on occasion, answered to other names!

Hah! 3 mm of squish, don't get me started!

Too late ...

Do you remember if your kit had a thicker base plate gasket, or, a thicker head gasket than normal? I don't remember which it was.

If it has a thicker head gasket, then it's a simple matter of substituting a thinner one and machining the combustion chamber to keep the compression the same.

If it has a thicker base plate, we can't use a thinner one without altering the port timings. In that case, we would have to machine the top of the cylinder down instead. As well, of course, machine the chamber as previous.

All the kidding aside, thank-you John for taking the time to share your knowledge both here and in the numerous workshops you have held. I have benefited greatly from your advice and watching you skillfully repair many scooters-you are a star!
