My understanding is that you now require a motorcycle license for all scooters and motorbikes including 50 (49) cc scooters regardless of how fast it can go.

This is a recent change to the law which allowed you to operate a 50 with only a learner's permit.
If you can't chrome it, curry it.
If you can't curry it, throw it away.

Yup, looks like they finally got around to changing the law, I knew it was coming but didn't know when. They have reclassed it to read

Class 7 Licence permits an operator to drive:

a moped
a motor vehicle referred to in the Class 5 category, as a learner only
a motorcycle, as a learner only, if the operator is at least 16 years of age
The minimum learning or licencing age is 14.

Requirements: written test and vision screening.

So now unless it is actually a moped (2 wheel motorized vechicle with pedals) you need a class 6.
I was a mod before you was a mod.

Anyone have a link to this often misquoted law? I would like to link to fact, not hearsay of fact.

Definition of a moped:

75 kph is too fast and it probably weighs too much as well.
